This is a set of photos of a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Nest, taken on May, 26, 2014. Both parents were busy foraging for insects that they brought back and stuffed into the chicks. The male has a dark brow-line in contrast to the female. The parents usually arrived separately, but occasionally they arrived at the same time so both parents were present. Several photos in this set show the male bird taking a fecal pellet from a chick to carry away from the nest. After delivering food, the male often spent time checking over the exterior of the nest, probably to check for vermin or other threats to the chicks. The nest was empty on May 31, so the chicks had fledged during the week. | |||||
