Bhubing Palace, พระตำหนักภูพิงคราชนิเวศน์, is located on Doi Buak Ha, Muang District, Chiang Mai Province. It is the royal winter residence in Chiang Mai where the Royal family stays during seasonal visits to the people in the northern part of Thailand. The palace is also the royal guesthouse for prominent state visitors from abroad. In the past Their Majesties welcomed or granted royal audience to State visitors only in the capital of Bangkok. Bhubing Palace was built in 1961. The construction started initially with only the royal residence building and the guesthouse. The other buildings were built at later dates. The building called Phra Tamnak Siri Song Bhubing is a log cabin style building which was built using eucalyptus wood. The building was commissioned by the Queen who wished to study the use of eucalyptus in buildings. The building is located on a hill above the palace water reservoir. One of the plants blooming in January were many large Poinsettia bushes. The Thai word พอยเซตเทีย for Poinsettia is a transliteration of the English name and the plant is also called Christmas Tree คริสต์มาส พรรณไม้ or Christmas Star. "Doi" (ดอย) is the Thai word for "Mountain", so it is frequently seen in the Thai highlands. พระตำหนักภูพิงคราชนิเวศน์ เป็นที่ตั้งอยู่บนดอยบวกห้าบนเมืองเชียงใหม่ Bhubing Palace website Wikimapia location |
