2007 Photograph, Wat Yannawa Boat Wihan, Yannawa, Sathon, Bangkok, Thailand, © 2014. ภาพถ่าย ๒๕๕๐ วัดยานนาวาเภาวิหาร ยานนาวา เขตสาทร กรุงเทพฯ ประเทศไทย This is the boat-shaped Wihan of the temple with the Ubosot in the background. This structure was built by King Rama III so that the people would be able to remember the old wooden junks that brought so much prosperity to the Thai Kingdom. The wooden ships were being replaced by modern steam ships at that time. The "ship" is made of concrete and has two chedi where the masts would ordinarily be located and the alter is the stern wheelhouse. Wat Yannawa was very popular with the many Chinese residents of this part of Bangkok. |
