To the east, adjacent to Wat Mahathat, is an elevated base of a rectangular building, 27.50 m. wide x 51.50 m. long and 2.50 m. high, adorned with overturned and upturned lotus moulding. The platform has both front and back stairs. In 1833 A.D. Noen Prasat, เนินปราสาท, was a place where King Rama IV found the stone inscription No. 1 which is inscribed with the story of Sukhothai. He also found a dias where King Ramkhamhaeng once presided over his council of state or when he listened to the teachings of Buddhist monks. The stone inscription also describes the planting of the Palmyra palm of King Ramkhamhaeng. Therefore, the Fine Arts Department has decided to grow this kind of palm in response to this inscription. According to the theory of King Rama VI, Noen Prasat is the remains of the base of the palace of the Sukhothai kings. Information from an historical marker at the site. เนินปราสาท ตั้งอยู่บริเวณด้านหน้าวัดมหาธาตุ ลักษณะเป็นฐานอาคารขนาดใหญ่รูปสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้า ขนาดกว้าง ๒๗.๕๐ เมตร ยาว ๕๑.๕๐ เมตร สูง ๒.๕๐ เมตร แบบฐานบัวคว่ำบัวหงาย มีบันไดที่ด้านหนัาและด้านหลังอย่างละหนี่งอห่ง เมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๓๗๖ พระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๔ เมื่อครั้งยังทรงผนวช อละยังมิไดขี้นครองราชย์ ทรงพบศิลาจาร่กหลักที่ ๑ ของพ่อขุนรามคำแหงมหาราช ที่ให้เรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับป่ระวัติศาสตร์สุโขทัย และทรงพบพระแท่นมนังศิลาบาตร ที่พ่อขุนรามคำแหงโปรดให้สร้างขี้นเพื่อ ให้พระภิกษุนั่งเทศนาธรรมในวันพระ ส่วนในวันธรรมดาพ่อขุนรามคำแหงจะประทับนั่งว่าราชการ ศิลาจารีกหลักที่ ๑ ยังได้กล่าวถีงการปลูกต้นตาลของ พ่อขุนรามคำแหง ดังนั้นในบริเวณนี้ กรมศิลปากรจีงได้ปลูกต้นตาลขี้นเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับข้อความนี้ ในพระราชนิพนธ์ เที่ยวเมืองพระร่วง ของพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกฏเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๖ ได้ทรงศันนิษฐานว่าบริเวณนี้เคยเป็น ฐานปราสทราชวัง ของกษัตริย์เมืองสุโขทัย ข้อมูลจากสัญลักษณ์ทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่เว็บไซต์ Wikimapia location |
