Wat Suan Keao Utthayan Yai, วัดสวนแก้วอุทยานใหญ่, is a large and important Buddhist monastery that was located in the main axis of Si Satchanalai town. It is mentioned in two parts of the Northern Historical Chronicle, concerning the dedication to this temple and the precedence of the monks. This temple has a rectangular layout and faces to the southeast. The important ancient structures are the main chedi and the main wihan (vihara) or ordination hall (Ubosot). Only the base and a set of pedistals are all that remain of the chedi. The main wihan or ubosot has six rooms without any partitions. The Buddha image's base and the monk's seat still remain. Information from an historical marker at the temple. วัดสวนแก้วอุทยานใหญ่เป็นวัดสำคัญขนาดใหญ่ที่ตั้งอยู่ในแนวแกนหลักของเมืองศรีสัชนาลัย และปรากฎหลักฐานในพงศาวดารเหนือเรื่องการกัลปนา และเรื่องทำเนียบสงฆ์ว่า "...และที่ไร่และนาสัดขึ้นแก่วัดอุทยานใหญ่ ตำบลป่าอ้อยเหลืองได้ ๑๒๕๐ ไร่ ตไบม่วงถวาย ด่านระกาไปถึงปู่เจ้าศาลตลุงได้ ๕๒๐ ไร่..." และ "...ถ้าหาพระครูธรรมไตรโลกวัดเขาอินทร์แก้วมิได้ให้พระครูยาโขติ วัดอุทยานใหญ่ขึ้นเป็นพระครูธรรมไตรโลก วัดเขาอินทร์แก้ว..." วัดแห่งนี้มีแผนผังเป็นรูปสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้า หันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ โบราณสถานด้านในวัดประกอบด้วย เจดีย์ประธานทรงกลมก่อด้วยศิลาแลง ปัจจุบันเหลือเพียงฐานเขียงหน้ากระดานฐานปัทม์และมาลัยลูกแก้ว ๒ ชั้น องค์ระฆังอยู่ในสภาพชำรุดและส่วนยอดหักหายไป วิหารประธานของวัดสวนแก้วอุทยานใหณ่เป็นอาคารโถงขนาด ๖ ห้อง มีมุขยื่นออกมาทั้งด้านหน้าและด้านหลัง มีบันไดทางขึ้นรืหาร ๗ แห่ง ที่ด้านหน้า ๒ แห่ง ด้านหลังและด้านข้างอีก ๔ แห่ง ด้านในวืหารยังคงปรากฏร่องรอยของฐานชุกชีและอาสนะสงฆ์อย่างชัดเจน ข้อมูลจากสัญลักษณ์ทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่วัด Wikimapia location |
