Wat Traphang Thong, วัดตระพังทองง, also called just Wat Traphang Thong, is located to the east of the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum. This ancient monument was constructed on an island in the middle of the reservoir named Traphang Thong. Surrounded by eight subordinaate chedi, the main bell-shaped chedi was built on a laterite base with the upper part made of brick. ordination hall (Ubosot or Ubosotha). The ordination hall (Ubosot or Ubosotha) is in rather good condition because it was rebuilt ninety years ago on the old foundation by Phraya Ronchaichanyut (Khrut), a Sukhothai governor, who was ordained here as a novice. More recently, this building was again rebuilt in 2005 A.D. A stone sculpture of a Buddha's Footprint removed from Phra Bat Yai hill is considered a valuable asset to the temple. The stone footprint was made in 1359 A.D. in the reign of Phra Maha Dharmaraja Li Thai of the Sukhothai period. Information from an historical marker at the temple. วัดตระพังทองง ตั้งอยู่ทางตะวันออกของพิพิธกัณฑสกานแห่งชาติ เป็นโบราณสกานที่ตังอยู่บนเกาะกลางสระน้ำที่เรียกว่า ตระพังทองมีเจดีย์ประธานทรงระฃัง ใช้ศิลาแลงก่อเป็นฐาน ส่วนดานบนใช้อิฐเป็นวัสดุก่อสร้างโดยรอบเจดีย์ประธาน มีเจดีย์รายล้อมจำน ๘ องค์ สำหรับอุโบสถ (โบสถ์) ซี่งปัจจุบันยังเห็นผนัง และรูปทรงหลังคาค่อนข้างสมบูรณ์นั้น เป็นเพราะเมื่อราว ๙๐ กว่าปีที่แล้ว พญารณชะยชาญยุทธ (ครุฑ) ซี่งเป็นเจ้าเมืองสุโขทัยได้มาบวชเณร และได้เรี่ยไรทรัพพย์ก่อสร้างโบสถ์ โดยก่อลงบนฐานโบสถ์เก่าสมัยสุโขทัย และในปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๔ ก็ไดมีการบูรณะอุโบสถขี้นใหม่อีกครั้ง สิ่งสำคัญของวัดนี้ยังมีรายพระพุทธบาทสมัยสุโขทัย จำหลักเป็นลายมงคล ๑๐๔ ประการ รอยพระบาทนี้ ได้คลื่อนย้ายมาจากเขาพระบาทใหญ่ ซี่งพระมหาธรรมราชาลิไททรงสร้าง ประดิษฐานไว้ ณ เขาสุมนกูฏ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๑๙๐๒ ข้อมูลจากสัญลักษณ์ทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่วัด Wikimapia location |
